Anterior only appliances are one of the most commonly used design of occlusal appliances today. The separation of the back teeth serves to lessen the message to the elevator muscles. This appliance can be extremely efficient at deprogramming muscles, alleviating muscle symptoms and seating condyles. Anterior only appliances are not for every patient and do have some risks when used in certain clinical situations and require very specific instructions for use.
