Ever Wonder Why Occlusal Changes Work?

It is a common misconception that dental patients with a malocclusion are at higher risk of developing temporomandibular disorders (TMD). The risk factor for developing TMD or breaking teeth is not how the patient's teeth touch, but how much they touch. The confusion occurs because as a management treatment we change occlusal contacts. The relationship between the force generated and the patient's occlusion will be the focus of this webinar. If you have ever been curious about “why” equilibration, appliances or ortho are beneficial for patients with TMD or at higher occlusal risk, this webinar will give you some answers.

Learning objectives

  • Understanding the relationship between tooth contacts and muscle activity
  • The relationship between occlusal contacts, TMD and Occlusal Risk
  • Surface area distribution as a way to minimize damage
