It’s All In The Smile: Psychologic & Technical Considerations

Perhaps our species greatest asset is our smile. Today dentistry focuses much of our efforts on technical esthetic procedures, yet the psychologic aspects of the smile are often not addressed. In this presentation we will discuss both the technical and subtle psychologic aspects of giving a dental patient the smile they have always wanted.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the psychology of the meaning of smiles and how it can help the practitioner help the patient
  • Understand types of smiles such as Duchenne vs. Non-Duchenne and their importance to us
  • Review effective diagnostics will help lead to great results
  • Understand key aspects of how to organize and restore a smile

About Bradley Portenoy

Dr. Bradley Portenoy earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery with Thesis Honors in Behavioral Science from SUNY at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine in 1985. In 2012, he attained the title of Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. He is one of the first dentists in the United States to achieve Scholar status from the The Pankey Institute, the Institute's highest honor. He has been a visiting faculty member of the The Pankey Institute since 2002 and has lectured to hundreds of dentists who come to The Pankey Institute from around the world. Dr. Portenoy has also had the opportunity to lecture on a national basis to dentists at some of the most prestigious dental meetings and dental schools in the country. He now consults for dentists who wish to attain a high quality comprehensive care practices. Dr. Portenoy also has published articles in several national publications.
