Making Assumptions

It was one of those days, where I was already running behind. Suddenly a new patient is added to my schedule and it says "second opinion for a crown versus a filling". I am already not looking forward to this. Then my assistant tells me after seating the patient and taking an x-ray that the prior dentist wanted a "fortune" to fix his tooth. In this situation I had to resist not making assumptions, and presenting what I thought the patient wanted to hear.
