Today I had a patient in to do upper anterior esthetic dentistry. The most stressful part of the case was an old implant placed by a prior dentist. More and more I have patients who have old implants and they have no idea what type it is, sometimes they can not remember the name of the dentist who placed it, and once the dentist had sold their practice and the patients records were no longer available. I have been known to e-mail a PA to the surgeons I work with and implant company reps with a simply question: "Anyone Know what this is". As a response I have put in place some record taking to help avoid this for my patients in the future.
