Like all hard appliances, acrylic mandibular advancement appliances pose multiple clinical challenges. The polymerization and set of traditional dental impression material and stone create an imperfect replica of the teeth. This results in appliances that are tight on some teeth and loose on others, and often when you adjust they just get loose and you lose retention. With digital impressions and digitally fabricated appliances the fit can be extremely tight, but they are difficult to adjust at all. Recently I had the chance to deliver a new TAP appliance with the thermoplastic lining. I wasn't sure I would like it, but ended up loving it. In this video I will share all the great things I discovered.
